Simulation of progressive shear failure in railway foundation

Railways are one of the largest transportation networks in world. One key subgrade problems railway track is associated with progressive shear failure (PSF). To-date, limited number studies have addressed mechanism PSF, especially extending mechanics unsaturated soils. In this paper, PSF studied aid computer program that was developed using a Visual Basic AutoCAD, Mohr-Coulomb criteria within soil framework. Simulation results suggest several parameters include stress distribution, matric suction, cohesion, coefficient lateral earth pressure at rest, and residual friction as well angle internal significant effect on shape planes subgrade. The can be reduced by optimizing combination these parameters. simulation simulated criteria.
